Summer Soccer Camp Success...well mostly

During the week of June 4th-June 8th I was able to have a soccer camp for 3-5 year olds at St. Lukes. At first I was hoping to have at least 25 kids show up for the camp which turned out to be a little bit ambitious. Instead we had 7 little ones that came to camp which turned out to be more than enough to handle for the week! With the help of Rachelle, Haley, Laura-Paige, and Allen Frazier I was able to assemble a wonderful staff of soccer coaches and attention holders.
Although the camp was a large success it had an inauspicious start. Haley and I arrived at St. Lukes at 12:30 a little stressed about the prospect of not having every little detail planned out for the camp. It turned out that are perfectionism would be spoiled right from the get go. When we tried to go inside the church we found every door to be locked and every phone call to St. Lukes to be unanswered. After 5-10 minutes of freaking out we realized that the church had closed at 12:00 and we were not going to be able to get in the church. I decided thats ok! We could just play outside for 3 hours. Incredulous, Haley said there was absolutely, positively no way we could have seven 3-5 year old's outside for three hours without a bathroom and air conditioning.
Luckily, we knew a friend who had run dance camps previously at the church who ended up having a key and all was solved. Or so we thought...during inside snack time I decided to lock the only unlocked door in the church just to make sure that no one got in while we were having our snacktime. After snack we decided to go out the backdoor to the playground. Unbeknownst to the five of us, the backdoor locked behind us and the only key that we had was also left behind. After another five minutes of seriously freaking out (one camper continued to ask us why she couldn't use the bathroom) LP and I traveled to a complete stranger's house that was rumored to have a key to the church. Fortunately for us, she was extremely nice and more than happy to help us out of our predicament. After exhaling and laughing at ourselves for a while we continued camp without incident.
The rest of the day and week went very smoothly. Honestly, it wouldn't have been any fun without a little drama. Here was our typical schedule every day:
1) Stretching
2) Soccer Drills
3) Silly Games
4 Snack
5) Playground time
6) Crafts
7) Soccer Drills/games
8)Dismissal
Thank you to everyone that helped make this event possible with a special shout out to Gen DeFillippo, Anne Marie, Haley, Rachelle, Laura Paige, Allen, and all the parents of the wonderful campers.

Here are a couple of pictures from the camp:
